I apologize for the radio silence here on the blog recently. After moving twice in seven months and having our second child, I’ve had to focus my attention elsewhere. But I have been writing–just along very different lines. I’ve been working on a middle-grade novel that’s a a funny, heartwarming story about a sixth grade girl trying to find her place in the world. It incorporates elements of baking, which is a passion of mine, and theater, which I have less personal experience with but greatly enjoyed researching and writing about. With the help of the world’s most amazing critique group, I’ve been working on it for about three years now, and I am finally ready to polish it and start submitting to agents. (The artwork shown here is courtesy of one of the multi-talented members of that group, Lauren Barrett, who offered her vision of my main character, MC.) And I’m headed to the New England Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators conference this weekend, which I hope will help me make it as shiny as possible so it will catch the perfect agent’s eye. Once things settle down a bit here, I plan to continue working on both fiction and health writing, so stay tuned!
